Brass Chamber Music During Covid - Canadian Brass

During the pandemic, not only did internet performances become more popular, but also internet content of all kinds, considering that seeing people in person was not an option. Whole conferences and competitions were moved online, especially short notice when things first started to get bad. Musicians craved a way to continue the collaboration, whether that be virtually as a performance, or just as an interview. The Canadian Brass began an interview series where they had long form discussions with people from all over the brass world, and sometimes even beyond. Composers and other musically involved individuals also were involved, as these scheduled weekly interviews became a great source of not only entertainment, but also inspiration, as contact with some of these people became even harder than it already was.

The trumpet players at the time for the Canadian Brass (at least the ones demonstrated in this particular interview) were Brandon Ridenour and Chris Coletti. Their subject for interview was Mark Gould, the long time trumpet professor at Julliard where he was the teacher of both of these wonderful players (as well as Caleb Hudson, another trumpet player with the group). This short tune was written by the group and Mark to advertise their upcoming interview. Given that the internet became a lot more central in everyones life, it was a great way to advertise this event. The entire interview can be found backlogged on the Canadian Brass Facebook page under videos.

  1. I have watched a lot of the interviews that they did during Covid lockdown as a way to pass the time stuck in my apartment in New Orleans. Thanks for sharing the awesome video and info about the interviews.
