Brass Chmaber Music During Covid - Swiss Brass Consort & Tap Dan's Company
Looking into and talking about the world during the pandemic has brought back a lot of memories of that time in my life. Looking back, it wasn't really that long, only a few years. But when in the middle of it, it felt like forever, as my life and everyones around me was put on halt. This video is one of the most impressive I have seen come out of the whole quarantine era, from the standpoint of audio that is. The playing and dancing are impressive, but the feat of getting that many people in on a live recording and having it sound like is immensely difficult. The amount of musicians playing at once, especially when coupled with the tap dancing would make this a nightmare to mix and balance. Adding on to the difficulty of this already, every musicians is in a different room, on a different microphone, making the process even more involved. If that wasn't enough, some of the tap dancers are recording outdoors, which adds even more complexity to making the recording sound correct. All of these factors combined makes the output of musicians during this time even more impressive, as normally we are only expected to be adept at playing, instead of playing, recording, and mastering.
The Swiss Brass Consort (the musicians in the video) is a dynamic and versatile brass ensemble based in Switzerland, known for its vibrant performances and innovative programming. Bringing together some of the country's finest brass musicians, the group blends traditional brass repertoire with contemporary works, often incorporating elements of jazz, pop, and world music. Their concerts are celebrated for their technical brilliance, rich tonal palette, and engaging stage presence. In addition to performing across Switzerland and internationally, the Swiss Brass Consort is committed to educational outreach, inspiring new generations of brass players through workshops and collaborations. Their passion for expanding the boundaries of brass ensemble music has made them a respected and influential force in the European music scene. They joined together with a dance company known as Tap Dan's Company to make this project possible.
